Subject – the person, place or thing doing the action in the sentence.
Object – the person or thing receiving the action.
Example:

The muddy rugby pitch stretched out under a grey afternoon sky. Players from both teams were breathing heavily as the final minutes of the match ticked away. The score was close, and everyone knew that the next play could decide the game.
Tom gripped the ball tightly as he ran forward. His boots slipped slightly on the wet grass, but he kept going, dodging one defender and then another. The crowd on the sidelines roared with excitement.
Just ahead of him, his teammate Sam sprinted towards the try line. Tom glanced up quickly, judging the distance. With a deep breath, he passed the ball across the field.
For a moment, it seemed to hang in the air. Then Sam caught it cleanly and dived over the line, landing in the mud with a huge grin on his face.
The whistle blew loudly. Their team had won.
