LC: To explain how visiting the synagogue deepens people's knowledge and understanding of the teachings of the Torah.

The Jewish place of worship is called a synagogue.

Places of Worship Synagogue

In any Jewish community, the rabbi is a respected and educated person who has studied and understands the sacred texts and traditions of Judaism.

For today's lesson, you are going to find out more about the role of the Rabbi and show your learning by creating a job advert. Make notes as you learn.

A religious teacher and leader with authority to make decisions on issues of Jewish law, a rabbi is the chief religious official of a synagogue, who often (but not always) leads worship and conducts rites and rituals.

A Jew will often turn to the rabbi when they have a question about any aspect of their faith, rather than studying the Torah or other texts. The rabbi helps people to understand what Judaism teaches about God and the sort of life God wants people to live. At the heart of synagogue worship is the public reading of the Torah.

In Judaism the lives of individuals are closely connected to the larger community. The synagogue also serves as a community gathering place.

An important time during each week is the Sabbath. Jews observe this period of holiness and rest from sunset on Friday to nightfall on Saturday.

Let's rehearse the story map.

Do you remember the actions we chose?

We are going to plan our model write.

You will write about Macbeth meeting the witches for the second time  for your model.

Your teacher will write about Macbeth and Banquo meeting the witches on the heath for the first time.

As your teacher adds details and toolkit features to  her plan you should do the same.

Here is a reminder of the plot to help you:
