Here is a made up word that I am going to read out loud and then hide. I would like you to chunk the word and attempt to spell it.

Nonsense word:

phydorturglope

  1.     With a partner, discuss any spelling differences.
  •      As a class discuss how we went about breaking this word up and attempting to spell it.
  •     Draw attention to possible root word and prefixes/suffixes.

Now your teacher is going to read some words. Use the chunking method to spell the words. Then discuss each word as a class.
