Welcome Back, Year 5!

Welcome to Year 5! I hope you have all had a fantastic summer and are feeling rested, excited and ready for a brilliant year ahead.

I am really looking forward to getting to know you all, seeing you challenge yourselves and watching you grow in confidence and independence. Year 5 is going to be full of new learning, exciting opportunities and lots of fun!

During our first few days together, we will spend some time getting organised and talking about how things will work in our classroom. Here are some important reminders that we will go through together:

Uniform
Please make sure that all uniform is clearly named, particularly jumpers and cardigans. This makes it much easier to return anything that gets misplaced.

Water Bottles
Everyone should bring a named water bottle to school each day. We will talk about where these are kept and when you can use them.

Equipment
We will go through the equipment you will need, where everything belongs and how we can look after our classroom resources.

Cloakroom
We will discuss how to keep our cloakroom tidy and where coats, bags, PE kits and other belongings should be kept.

Class Monitors
There will be opportunities to take on different responsibilities as our Year 5 monitors. We will talk about the different jobs and what being a responsible monitor looks like.

Standards and Expectations
In Year 5, we have high expectations of ourselves and each other. We will agree on our classroom expectations, including being ready to learn, respectful, responsible and kind.

Break Times
We will go through our break-time routines and expectations.

Lunchtimes
We will discuss our lunchtime routines and make sure everyone understands the importance of allergy badges and keeping one another safe.

Logins
You will receive or be reminded of the logins you need for the different programmes and resources we use. Please look after these carefully.

Reading Records
Your Reading Record is an important part of Year 5. Please bring it to school as requested and keep it up to date so that we can celebrate all the reading you are doing. Remember to get it signed by a parent or guardian once you have read to them.

Homework
Our regular Year 5 homework will include:

20 minutes of reading every night
Spellings
Multiplication and division practice

We will go through exactly what is expected and when homework needs to be completed.

Most importantly, our classroom is a place where it is okay to ask questions, make mistakes and have a go. I want everyone to feel happy, safe and proud to be part of our class.

I am really excited for the year ahead.
