Use spelling Frame and learn your Year 4 Spellings.

Starter (10 minutes)
Who's Missing?
Show a picture of four children discussing an idea.
Ask:
"What makes a good team discussion?"
Record answers.
Then ask:
"What happens if one person never gets a chance to speak?"
Introduce today's talk move:
Great speakers don't just share their own ideas:they help others share theirs too.
Model phrases such as:
- "What do you think, Isa?"
- "Would you like to add anything?"
- "We haven't heard from everyone yet."
Children practise in pairs.
Main Activity (30 minutes)

Plan the Perfect Year 4 Classroom
Each group has cards:
- Reading corner
- Learning walls
- Outdoor learning
- Class jobs
- Wellbeing area
- Labelled trays for resources
The challenge is to agree on YOUR top four.

The Rule
Before choosing a card:
Everyone must share one idea.
If someone hasn't spoken, another child must invite them.
Examples:
"We haven't heard from "Isa" yet."
"What do you think?"
"Would you like to choose one?"
The teacher circulates listening for children encouraging everyone to contribute.

Whole class: (10 minutes)
Ask each group:
"Who helped someone else join in today?"
Children explain:

Finish by asking:
"Why is it important that everyone gets a chance to speak?"

- Write enough detail for the reader to imagine the scene.
Starter (5 minutes)

- What questions does this picture make you ask?
Main Task (35–40 minutes)
Writing Prompt
One morning, something incredible appeared in the lake...
Continue the story or describe what happened next.
Think about:
- What can you see?
- What can you hear?
- What is the creature doing?
- How are you feeling?
- What might happen next?
Write as much as you can. Remember you must write in your best handwriting.
