What is a summary?

Here is my summary of the final pages of Chapter 1:

When Barney got back to Grandma's, he told Lou and Grandma where he had been and about Stig. They didn't really believe him, and Lou was sure Barney had made Stig up and that he was just an imaginary friend. 

Barney would be going home soon, so he decided he would go and visit Stig the next day.

Now follow the first part of Chapter 2 whilst your teacher reads it to you.

Talk with your teacher and the rest of your group. What is the main idea of the first two pages. Can you say in one or two sentences.

Now do the same for the next two pages.

Do the same for the last two pages.

In your book, write a summary of this part of Chapter 2.

LC: To understand why people have different ideas on how to live well.


Christians believe that God teaches people how to live well through the Bible, the example of Jesus, prayer, family, church, and trusted people who show love, kindness, forgiveness and wisdom.

Key Question:

Why might people have different ideas about how to live a good life?


Think about people who have helped you understand right and wrong.
This could be parents, carers, grandparents, teachers, friends, faith leaders or people in your community.


Who has influenced your sense of right and wrong?
Why are they a good source of wisdom or authority?


Imagine you have the last piece of paper in the world. You have been asked to write down the best guidance for life you have ever been given.

What would you write?

Examples:

  • It is okay to fail because mistakes help us learn and grow.
  • Always stand up for what you believe is right.
  • Treat others how you would like to be treated.
  • Family and friends are important because they can support and guide us.
  • Stay true to yourself and make choices that are kind and honest.
  • Forgive others, just as Christians believe Jesus taught people to forgive.
  • Show love and kindness, even when it is difficult.

Christian Reflection:

Christians believe Jesus gave important guidance for life. One example is:

Then answer these questions in full sentences:

Obon – A Japanese Buddhist Festival Honouring Ancestors

Today we are learning about Obon, a festival celebrated in Japan.

During Obon, families remember loved ones who have died. They may visit graves, light lanterns, share memories and take part in traditional dances called Bon Odori.

Obon reminds us that memories are important and that people around the world honour loved ones in different ways.

How do you show gratitude to people who are important in your life?
