Over our transition days we are going to be thinking about how we are all different but the same.

In this story, the children are all different — just like us.
But they are the same in one important way — they all belong and are welcome.

What do we want our classroom to be like in September?

How will we do if someone feels left out?

In Year 2 we start to learn our times tables.

W re going to start to learn our 10 times table today and the work you have dome in Year 1 counting in 10's is really going to help.

We are going to work in  pairs to play bingo testing you 10 times table knowledge.

The teacher is going to show you an answer and you have to find the calculation, pop a counter on the answer and remember to say bingo when you and your partner have them all.

Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings. They also have different spellings.

Read the words in the two lists below. Spot the homophone pairs and match them up!

Talk to your partner then write down your answers.

Read these sentences with your partner and write down the correct homophone.
1. Last knight/night, I went for a walk in the moonlight.

Did you know that every child has special rights? Rights are like rules that help make sure you are safe, happy, and healthy.

Here are some important ones just for you:

  1. You have the right to be safe – Grown-ups must help keep you safe from harm.

  2. You have the right to be loved and cared for – Your family or someone kind should take care of you.

  3. You have the right to play – Playtime is important for fun and learning!

  4. You have the right to learn – You should go to school and learn new things.

  5. You have the right to be healthy – You should get good food, clean water, and a doctor when you’re sick.

  6. You have the right to speak – You can say what you think, and people should listen kindly.

So remember: 

You are important, and these rights help protect you and help you grow up strong and happy!

We are going to think about how, in Year 2 we can show respect for other children’s rights.

As children you all have the right to an education.

Lets write a list to add to our Class Charter for September.

So that we remember to respect each other’s rights you are going to create a miniature version of yourself to remind you throughout your time in Year Two.
