Can we describe how seeds and bulbs change into mature plants?
Last week we sequenced the life cycle of a bean seed.
Talk to your partner about what you remember.
We are going to learn the life cycle of a bean ready for our work on explanations in English.
When a bean seed is buried in the soil, it takes in water and begins to grow. A root grows first. It grows down into the soil so it can soak in water. When the shoot begins to grow it pushes up through the soil to reach they light. The plant grows taller and more leaves grow because the leaves help the plant to make food.
Then flower buds begin to grow. Nectar and pollen grow inside the flower. The nectar attracts insects so the pollen can stick to the insects as they move from flower to flower. This makes seeds form inside the flower.
The flower dies and the beans begin to form. They are protected in a tough pod. When the bean pods are fully grown the bean plant begins to die and the beans drop to the ground./i/J_Fernandes/Growing_Beans_Time_Lapse.mp4
You and a partner are going to add actions to the life cycle and record yourselves to help you to remember what happens to the bean seed.
