Adding -s or -es
When you add -s or -es onto the end of a word, you change it from being singular (one of something) to being plural (more than one of something).
For example:
-
bird = singular (one bird)
-
birds = plural (more than one bird)
-
box = singular (one box)
-
boxes = plural (more than one box)
Sometimes, we just add an '-s' to make a word plural.
However, if the word ends with 's', 'ch', 'sh', 'ss', 'x' or 'z' we have to add an '-es' to make it plural.
Here are some words in their singular form.
miss
nail
dress
church
Read each word carefully and decide whether you will add an '-s' or '-es' to make it plural.
Today we are going to identify, discuss and collect our favourite words and phrases that are used to persuade.
Let's take a look at an example together:
Join our famous clowns, Mooky and Mr Boo, as the world celebrates 250 years of the circus! The Blackpool Tower Circus will host this 'once in a lifetime' celebration in style with a mezmerising show! Phenomenal acts, who have been performing in circuses for generations, will leave you in awe as they perform death-defying stunts that will excite and delight the whole family.
What is the purpose of using the adjective 'famous' to describe the clowns?

Now, let's look through our other examples and write a list of the words or phrases we think are there to persuade the reader.

Before we go you need to predict which of the materials we are going to test will work the best and why you think that. We also need to think as Scientists on how we can test which is the best materials to make a tea bag.
