To be able to describe movements of objects using varied language.

Complete pages 147-150 as a class.
Play the beebot game after the children have finished.
Can we use words and phrases such as old, new, before (I was born), after (I was born), past, present, then, now and a long time ago to present our findings?
As Right Holders:
- attempt something new and give it our best try
- encourage others to play
- respect others' differences
- listen to the views of others
- take care of school resources and the environment
As Duty Bearers:
- Make sure everyone has the opportunity to be included
- Create an environment where everyone feels appreciated
- Provide spaces and resources for children to rest, relax and play
- listen to the views of others
Let's watch the video again that shows us how toys have changed within living memory.
As historians we have learned a lot about how toys have changed from the past to the present:
- what materials toys are made from
- how toys are powered
- how toys from the past are still played with today- even though they may have changed slightly
- How were toys made?
We have looked at toys from a museum to see how they have changed over the past 100 years. We have also used our knowledge and skills as engineers and scientists to make our own toys.
Today it is your turn to demonstrate what you have learned using the key vocabulary we have been using this half term.
Activity -
- Ask children to stand in a line across the classroom.
- Read out statements and ask children to move to one side of the room for "past/then" and the other side for "present/now."
- Discuss their choices using historical vocabulary.
Example statements:
-
- "Playing with a wooden spinning top."
- "Playing with a tablet game."
- "Playing with a teddy bear made over 100 years ago."
- "Playing with a remote-control car."
- "Playing with a hoop and stick."
- "Playing with LEGO."
- "Playing with a rag doll."
- "Playing with an electronic toy that lights up and makes sounds."
- "Playing with marbles."
- "Playing with a video game console."
Children can then discuss their choices using historical vocabulary, for example:
- "This toy is from the past."
- "People played with this a long time ago."
- "Children play with this toy now."
- "This toy was used before I was born."
- "This is a new toy."
Model writing a sentence using the starters above for example -
In the past children played with a wooden hoop.
