To be able to find and compare the mass of a range of objects using non-standard units

Collect some everyday objects that can be weighed, and a set of identical cubes to represent a unit. Ensure that the everyday objects have a range of masses.

Encourage reasoning based on the measuring of mass using the non-standard unit represented by the cubes, and encourage mathematical language such as ‘is heavier than’ and ‘is lighter than’.

We will watch to 1:22 Watch - Time For A Story | Season 13 | Full Episode | Thomas & Friends UK

Your teacher will show you how to write the next part of the story now.

Here are some words that you could use to improve the story...

How was Thomas feeling? Here are some ideas:

thrilled

excited

pleased

happy

delighted

tickled pink

full of beans

bright eyed and bushy tailed

What could Thomas say?

I'll toot and I'll hoot

I'll chuff and I'll puff

I'll steam and I'll dream

but I won't be late.

Modelled write for teacher-

Thomas was thrilled because he had been chosen to deliver the storybooks. He had to take them to the library. I musn’t be late for storytime. I’ll toot and I’ll hoot so I’ll be there on time! Or I’ll toot and I’ll hoot but I won’t be late!

How can we better understand and manage difficult situations when we're struggling?

What Could We Do? Scenarios

Read out one scenario at a time and ask them to discuss:

  1. How might this person be feeling?
  2. Why might they feel this way?
  3. What could they do to help themselves?
  4. Who could help them?

Scenario 1:
Sam can't find his coat after playtime and starts to feel worried.

Scenario 2:
Aisha finds her maths work difficult and wants to give up.

Scenario 3:
Leo's friends are playing a game, but they won't let him join in.

Scenario 4:
Mia accidentally spills her water bottle over her work and feels upset.

Scenario 5:
Ben is nervous about reading aloud in front of the class.

Scenario 6:
Eva and her friend have had an argument during lunchtime.

  • Ask a teacher or trusted adult for help.
  • Talk to a friend.
  • Have a drink of water.
  • Move to a quiet space.
