How do Hindus use a shrine to show respect?

What things do you look after carefully? How do you show something is special? How do we show respect?

A shrine may have:

  • a picture or statue of a Hindu god or goddess
  • flowers
  • a lamp called a Diya
  • candles or lights
  • incense
  • a small bell

Hindus will use their shrine to

  • pray
  • fold their hands
  • offer flowers or fruit
  • light a diya (with an adult)
  • spend quiet time thinking about God.

Grammar

An exclamation mark is used to show when something is surprising or forceful. It helps make the meaning of the sentence clear.

Today we are going to think about the story 'Thomas Goes Crash' again.

Take a look at these pictures from the story.

Now let's stand up and 'step into' the story.

How are you feeling now Thomas? Which part of the story are you thinking about?

Practise this for different parts of the story, with your talk partner.

Now write the speech bubble on your whiteboards (I will…)

Once we have finished this, let's listen to the story and find out the actual order of the story and talk about it together.
