Monday

Are we aware of how and why Hindus might use statues and images in their worship?

Here is a murti of Lakshmi

(Goddess of money, wealth, abundance, fertility & prosperity).

Here is a murti of Ganesh

(God of luck, wisdom, understanding, and a discriminating intellect that one must possess to attain perfection in life).

Hindus may worship at home or in a temple.  Many Hindus have a shrine with images or statues- we will learn more about this next week The images help them focus when praying.

The images remind them of stories, values and different aspects of God. Hindus may offer flowers, food or light a lamp during worship

Look at all of the different forms Brahman can be in.

Watch- Volume & Capacity explained | Compare Capacity vs Volume | Difference between Volume and Capacity- Neel Nation

Get two containers, which container has the greater 'capacity'? Measure with cups or water and see if their predictions were correct.

Capacity is the amount of liquid a container can hold when it is full.

The jug can hold 4 cups of liquid, and the bottle can hold 3 cups, so the jug has a greater capacity.

Go outside and complete this as small groups.

Introduce and discuss key vocabulary, linking meanings of new words to those already known.

Orally plan and rehearse ideas.

The controller of Train Company on Sodor has left us a message.

Dear Year 1,

I need a new train!

Come and tell me all about yourself and persuade me you are the one I’m looking for!

We are going to imagine that we are trains. You need to be able to describe yourself and persuade the controller to pick you!

Select and generate your favourite words so we can use them in our writing for the controller.

When we are selecting details about our trains we need to think about:-

  • Colour
  • Size
  • Type of train
  • How it moves

Watch the videos below to see if you can magpie any more ideas.

Complete the Role on the Wall about your train.

Now that you have collected your ideas practise saying the characteristic using pronoun I.

My name is…

I am clean and shiny.
I charge along like troops in a battle.
I am helpful and popular.
I go…

I always…
