Numberblocks – 5 minutes
Numberblocks - Series 3: Ten Again - BBC iPlayer

Pause and ask:
- “What numbers make 10?”
- “How many more do we need?”
- “Can you show me with your fingers?”
Main Activity – 20 minutes
Give each child a ten frame and 10 counters.
Call out a number, e.g. 6. Children place 6 counters on their ten frame and work out how many more are needed to make 10.
Repeat with different numbers.
Children then work with a partner. One child chooses a number card and the other finds the number that makes 10.
Encourage children to say the bonds aloud:
6 + 4 = 10
7 + 3 = 10
8 + 2 = 10
5 + 5 = 10
Challenge
Can you find all the different ways to make 10?
Plenary – 5 minutes
Show missing-number questions:
7 + __ = 10
__ + 4 = 10
5 + __ = 10
Children answer using their fingers or ten frames.
