The Hidden Life of Bees
Bees are small insects, but they play a huge role in keeping our planet healthy. As they move from flower to flower collecting nectar, bees also transfer pollen. This process, known as pollination, helps plants produce fruits, seeds and vegetables. Without bees, many of the foods we eat every day would become much harder to grow.
A single bee can visit thousands of flowers in just one day. While doing this, it carries tiny grains of pollen on its legs and body. When the pollen falls onto another flower, it allows the plant to reproduce. This means that bees are not just helpful insects; they are essential to farming and food production around the world.
Sadly, bee numbers have been decreasing in recent years. Scientists believe this is due to a combination of habitat loss, the use of pesticides and climate change. Fewer wildflowers mean less food for bees, and changes in weather can make it difficult for them to survive. Many people are now working to protect bees by planting wildflowers, reducing harmful chemicals and raising awareness of how important these insects really are.
