LC: Discuss and record ideas for planning using prompts.

Mrs Davison has been looking at your English books and the amazing stories you have written in Year 3. We have told her that in our English lessons this half term we have been reading folk tales. This is her favourite genre! She has asked Mrs Ali and Mrs Pickup if they will let you write some folk tales of your own to share with her so that she can show them off to some of our special visitors.

SO today we are going to be gathering ideas for writing our own folk tales.

Because we have been learning a story, we are going to ‘steal’ some of the ideas, but change some of them to make each story your own.

Our stories will be set in an English county. Which ones should we select for us to choose from?

LC: To locate popular physical and human features on a map of Lancashire

With your talking partners recap what is meant by ‘human features’ and ‘physical features’.

Locate the following features on the map. Write the corresponding numbers next to each one.

1. Thompson Park

2. Charter Walk Shopping Centre

3. Turf Moor

4. Reel Cinema

5. Queens Park

We will now take a look at what Lancashire was most popular for.

Can you take a guess?

During the 18th and 19th centuries, Lancashire was a major producer of cotton goods. This was known as the Lancashire cotton industry.

Let's take a look at an old Cotton Mill - Is this a human feature or a physical feature?

Looking at the map, can you guess which city the Quarry Bank Mill

is in?

Are there any physical features nearby? Can you list them in your books

Challenge: Can you write a small paragraph about what Lancashire was famous for?
