We are so happy that you are here. This website is a special place where you can find out all about our learning journey in Year 2. You will discover news about our class, see some of the exciting work we are doing, and explore fun activities that will help you practise your skills. There will be games to play, stories to enjoy, and challenges to try at home or in school.
Our website is also a space to celebrate your hard work. We will share photos, projects, and achievements so everyone can see the amazing things you are learning. As you explore, you will find helpful links, interesting facts, and ideas to inspire your curiosity.
Most importantly, this is a safe and friendly place made just for you. We hope it helps you to feel proud of your learning and excited about all the adventures we will have in Year 2.
Timetable

Autumn 1
In Literacy, we are going to be reading instructions, identifying their key features and using these features to write our own instructions.
We will also be reading lots of tradition tales and tales with a twist. We will explore the language used and identify similarities and differences between them. We will then use this information to help us write a story of our own.
In Maths, we will be learning to count numbers up to 100 using concrete objects.
We will learn that each digit in a number has its own value and to be able to compare numbers using place-value knowledge.
2L Subtractions
This term, we are learning all about animals, including humans. Animals are living things that eat, breathe, grow, and move. There are so many different types of animals in the world, from tiny insects to big elephants. Some live in the wild, some live in water, and some live in our homes as pets. Humans are animals too, we belong to a special group called mammals. As we learn more this term, we’ll discover how animals live, what they need to survive, and how they change and grow, just like us!

2L Trade
In Art we will learn about the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to our own work. We will make 3D forms from malleable and recycled materials.

In Geography, we are learning all about the wider world. Geography is the study of places, people, and the world around us. We will explore different countries, learn about continents and oceans, and find out what makes each place special. We’ll look at maps and globes to see where things are, and we’ll learn about the weather, land, and how people live in different parts of the world. It’s a great way to discover more about our amazing planet and how we are all connected!

In R.E we will be answering the questions 'How do we respond to things that really matter?' and 'What do special stories teach worshipers and others?'
We will be discussing how we look after natural resources and what we can do as responsible citizens to take care of the world. We will also look at the story of Creation and how Christians celebrate Harvest Festival.

2L Creation story
We will learn about why we have rules to keep us safe. We will also learn about friendships, how to resolve arguments and ask for help if we are unhappy with friends. We will be identifying similarities and differences between families. We will learn about the common responsibilities people have in every family. We will learn how to share our worries if someone in our family makes us feel upset.

Autumn 2
In English, we will be enjoying the story The Great Explorer. We will be talking about adventures, writing our own story, and imagining what it would be like to be an explorer!

Below is our class story map. We used inspiration from the narrative ‘The Great Explorer’ by Chris Judge.

As Mathematicians, we will be learning about multiplication and division by using our 2, 5, and 10 times tables and solving fun problems. We will explore how multiplication is like repeated addition and how division means sharing equally.
We will also be learning about shapes, describing and sorting them by their sides and corners. In measurement, we will use grams, kilograms, litres, and millilitres to compare and solve real-life problems!

2L - Solving calculations
As Scientists, we will be exploring different habitats around the world and learning about the amazing animals and plants that live in them. As Scientists, we will be discovering how creatures are suited to their environments — from the icy Arctic to the hot, dry desert!

Microhabits
As Historians, we will be learning about the famous explorer Sir Robert Falcon Scott. The children will discover his incredible journey to the South Pole, learning about the challenges he faced and what life was like during his expedition. Through stories, maps, and creative activities, the class will explore what makes someone brave and determined.

As Artists, we will be learning about the artist Nancy McCroskey and her amazing tile-inspired designs. The children will explore patterns, shapes, and colours to create their own artwork inspired by her style. They will experiment with drawing and arranging their designs to make beautiful repeating patterns.

2L Calm down jars
In RE, we will be learning about how Christians use light in worship and celebrations. The children will make beautiful Christingles and reflect on the meaning of each part.
Who is the light of the world?
During PSHCE, we will discuss the importance of trusted adults and knowing who to talk to if they ever feel worried. The children will identify safe people at home and school who they can turn to for help and support.

Spring 1
This Spring Term in Year 2 Maths, children will explore a range of exciting topics that build their confidence and problem-solving skills. Children will be focusing on measurement in maths, beginning with length and then moving on to mass. They will explore practical ways of comparing, measuring, and understanding different units, helping them make sense of measurement in real-life situations. These lessons support children in developing accurate measuring skills and deepen their understanding of the world around them, setting a strong foundation for the topics they will meet in the Spring Term.
This term in Science, children will be learning all about habitats and food chains. They will explore how animals and plants are suited to where they live, investigate different micro-habitats, and discover how living things depend on each other for food and survival. As the unit progresses, children will learn how simple food chains work and how energy is passed from plants to animals. This topic encourages curiosity about the natural world and helps children understand the important connections between all living things.

This half term in History, children will continue learning on explorers, with a focus on Tim Peake and his remarkable journey into space. They will explore the key events in his life, compare his achievements with those of Sir Robert Falcon Scott, and discuss why Tim Peake is an important figure today. Children will also develop their understanding of timelines, learning how to place events in chronological order using vocabulary linked to the passing of time. This topic helps children build their enquiry skills while discovering the exciting world of exploration, past and present.

This half term, Year 2 will be exploring how vehicles work by investigating wheels, axles and chassis. Children will design and build their own moving model using construction kits and simple tools. This Knowledge Organiser highlights the key vocabulary and ideas they’ll be learning, so you can talk about the project together at home.
This half term, Year 2 will be learning about Judaism and thinking about what truly matters to us. We’ll explore the importance of special people, keeping promises, and spending meaningful time with others, as well as learning about the Sabbath and the 10 commandments. Through stories and discussion, children will reflect on their own values and what helps guide their choices.
This half term, Year 2 will be learning about economic wellbeing by exploring the differences between needs and wants, the roles people have in their community, and how we make choices about spending and saving money. Children will also think about their own strengths and how people use their skills in different jobs. Through discussions and activities, they’ll learn how to make thoughtful decisions that support healthy and responsible living.
