Identify and discuss main characters and events in stories.
In the beginning, there was a boy and he found a penguin at his door. The penguin looked sad and the boy thought it must be lost. The boy helped him. He checked in the Lost and Found Office. He asked some birds but nobody could help. So the boy and the penguin decided to row to the South Pole. When they arrived, the penguin looked sadder than ever. The boy set off home but then he thought the penguin must have been lonely. The boy went in search of the penguin. A bit later, he found the penguin and they gave each other a huge hug.
Practice the story using the story map.

Who are the main characters in the story?
We are going to begin to change parts of the story.
What could we change? Talk to your partner.
We could change:
- animal
- where the character and animal are going?
- how your character and animal travel?
Which animal shall we choose?
We need to think about where animals live and make sure they are going to the right place. Would a tiger go to the South Pole?
Where are you going to travel to?

How are you going to get there?

Write your ideas in the boxes on your sheet.
