Determiners

A determiner comes before a noun to give us more information about it.

a, an, the, one, this, that

Determiners may tell us that we are talking about more than one thing.

some, many, these, those, three, lots, hundreds

They might tell us whose thing it is.

mine, ours, theirs, his, hers

Try to find the determiners in these examples.

Identify the determiners in the sentences below.

LC: To plan a collage based on climate change.

We have already practised our skills of sharp cutting, tearing, scrunching and layering when making a landscape. We have also taken rubbings of different surfaces and done some colour washes.

It is now you turn to plan to apply these skills.

Our collage will represent the ideas of climate change and global warming.

First, let's have a look at some images. Talk to the people around you about what you notice. What you think about. Where you might see this type of art.

This type of art may look different to other types of art you may think of.

It is called POP ART. Pop art means popular art.

Let's learn.

Pop Art | Tate Kids

Pop art is an art movement that began in the 1950's and grew more popular in the 1960's in America and Britain. They get their ideas from modern culture.

It began as a revolt against 'traditional art' and what people thought art should be. Young people thought that the art they were taught in school or saw in museums did not have anything to do with how they lived their lives or the things they saw around them every day.  Instead, they looked at movies, advertising and comic books for ideas.

Let's look at 2 famous Pop artists and their work.

Sir Peter Thomas Blake co-created the sleeve design for the Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

His other works include the cover of the Band Aid single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" This was a charity song to raise money to help starving people in Africa. Can you see how he has used art to send a message? What do you notice about the picture?

Blake also designed the 2012 Brit Award statuette. In 2002 he was knighted at Buckingham Palace for his services to art.

Richard Hamilton was a painter and collage artist.

Let's have a look at 2 of his collages. What do you notice?

So now we know a little bit more, let's use the ideas to produce our own art work.

We are going to produce something similar to the image below.

The image is a split image with the healthy world on one side and the damaged world on the other. It is held up by a hand.

We would like you to include a hand in your collage but you can decide whether it is holding the world or a head (representing thinking). The hand will be made of newspaper and the world/head will be charcoal. It will then be up to you to decide what you would like to include in your collage to represent climate change and global warming.

You will now draw your ideas and think about what colours and materials you want to use. You will also need to decide which parts are cut, layered scrunched etc

Remember to label your work.
