Fronted adverbials for when

Fronted adverbials are adverbials found at the start of a sentence that are used to describe the action that follows. Fronted adverbials can describe the time, place, manner, frequency, and degree of an action.

  • The time something happens – Before sunrise, Darius crept into the beast’s cave.

“We haven’t got to the ice-block bit though,” Tyson chuckled. “Can you get us one, Coop?” “Alright, where’s your money?” Cooper replied. “Do you have any, Brodie?” Tyson asked. A little kid ran past and stepped on Brodie’s hand. “No,” he replied grumpily. “Can you get us one, Cooper? We haven’t got any cash,” Tyson asked, but it didn’t sound like a question. He rolled over on the concrete to warm his back up, shielding his eyes from the bright sun. “Really? C’mon, guys! I bought the last one,” Cooper frowned. “That’s because you’re better at saving than we are,” Brodie chimed in. “C’mon, Coop, be a mate,” Tyson said, standing up. His body left a dark watermark outline on the light grey concrete, which made him smirk. Cooper stood up. “Oh, alright, then,” he sighed. Grabbing his wallet, he wandered towards the kiosk

R: What did they need the money for?

I: Are the other boys really Cooper's friend? Yes or no, give a reason for your answer.

C: What adjectives are used to describe the concrete.

LC- To understand the importance of Lent for Christians.

We have already looked at how Jesus went into the wilderness for 40 days and 40 nights and sacrificed his comforts and concentrated on praying and thinking about God in preparation for his work in the future.

Christians still think about this story and remember the sacrifices that Jesus made during a time of the year called LENT.

Let's watch the video and read the information to find out more.

The following Power Point tells us a little bit more about how Christians behave during Lent.

lent a short guide for primary presentation 1 .pdf

Now, in your books answer the following question.

What is Lent and why is it important for Christians?

You should explain:

What is Lent?

Lent is when.....

When is Lent celebrated?

Lent is celebrate...

How is Lent celebrated?

Christians celebrate Lent by...

Key Holy days during Lent and how Christians remember( Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Holy Week)

Some of the important days in Lent are...

LC: To think about our own names and their meanings. To explore the Christian understanding of Jesus’ name.

My name is ....

It means...

My name is special because ...T

Our names often mean something: your parents may have chosen your name because it is something they like or reminds them of an event or time of year. Examples are Holly, Hazel and June.

Who has a middle name, or more than one?

Names are special and we should be careful how we use them and not be unkind about them or make fun of people’s names or give them cruel nicknames.

Mr Men books – their names are special because they tell us what kind of characters they are. You could ask, why Mr Jelly? Because he’s scared of everything, etc.

The Bible and say that it is full of names. There are  some names which are hard to pronounce such as: Abelbethmaachah (1 Kings 15.20); Berodachbaladan (2 Kings 20.12); Mahershalalhashbaz (Isaiah 8.1).

For Christians there is one name that is more special than any other. When this baby was born there were no baby name books like there are now but his mother Mary knew exactly what she should call her baby boy because God had told Joseph, her husband, what name to give him.
So he was called Jesus, which means Saviour, or God will save us. The name of Jesus is special for Christians because they believe that he helps us and puts us right with God.

For Muslims Mohammed is a special name because it is the name of the Prophet which means the praiseworthy one. Muhammed was not a common name and he was the first person to be called that in Makkah. When Muslims say or hear the name Muhammad and it is about the prophet they say may peace and blessing be upon him.

Time for reflection

Reflection

Close your eyes.

Think for a moment about your own name.

Say it silently in your head.

Does it have a special meaning?

Are you named after someone in your family?

Do your family and friends have a shortened version of your name they like to call you by?

Silently name three special people in your head – perhaps from your family or your friends.
